Jewellery Management System with RFID

Common Challenges and Solutions for Jewellery company

Today, most of the jewellers track their inventory on daily or weekly basis. The process is completely manual. This is time consuming process and also prone to errors. They have to check each and every jewel item.

Most jewellery shops use barcodes. Barcodes requires line-of-site for reading the items. RFID can read entire tray of jewels within seconds. RFID does not require line of site as barcodes. Since RFID can read within seconds, handling of expensive jewellery items is also reduced. We can also hide the RFID inlays. So that it will not be visible.

RFID technology offers unique possibilities to the challenges facing the jewellery industry. Being capable of handling simultaneous multi-scan capabilities means Jewellers will not be manually accounting for each jewellery item one piece at a time. With RFID in place, jewellery can scan; detect batches of jewellery items all at once. The convenience the technology offers also implies the feasibility of running near real-time monitoring of jewellery goods everyday of the week, thereby heightening security throughout.

RFID System for Jewellery

RFID is the latest technology to be used in Jewellery inventory system, easier, faster and efficient inventorying, and materials handling. Enables auto detection of product or multiple variants of the products at a very high speed. Data can be read from a distance and no line of sight is necessary. Even individual items within a group or cluster of items can be detected

  • Each jewellery is tagged with a RFID tag that contains a unique identification number.
  • The number, when scanned by a reader is transmitted to an inventory database which runs on a standard PC in the store.
  • The database contains detailed information on each piece of jewellery and by passing the reader over any number of items a stock check is carried out in minutes.
  • Inventory Transaction history is recorded and shows in this interface.

Features of RFID Jewellery System

Jewellery Enrolment

The product section seeks details such as lot type, metal type, weight, making charges, wastage, stone type & its weight besides other details which are then stored for inventory process as & when required.

Categorization of items

Any jewel retail showroom first has to categorize and sub categorize the items it plans to display & RFIDJS enables the user from this first stage.

Master section

To add value to the details fed into the database, RFIDJS deploys RFID system to tag individual items with defined item-based details in the Item Master section. The supplier & counter information is fed into the database using respective modules in this application. The information thus fed in the counter section aids tracking the physical presence of the items in the showroom during the process of shelf inventory. Master section integrated with image capturing of tagged individual item with the aid of a web cam. To put in simple words, the captured image is displayed with all relevant information about the item in the display section when RFID system is activated.

Billing Counter

Items to be billed are placed on the smart POS table. Host can identify number of items simultaneously.

Search Module

This module activates the RFID system and auto detects the tagged items and displays the relevant information of every individual item along with the image.

Shelf inventory system

The shelf inventory activates the wireless RFID system and covers one reasonably sized outlet for efficient, faster & accurate stocktaking. It also helps in reporting details pertaining to total stock tagged, stock account displayed in the shelf, total billed stock, misplaced item if any & items placed in the wrong counters and generate the following reports:

  • Total stock tagged
  • Stock account displayed in the shelf
  • Date and time stamp log for shelf scanning
  • Total billed stock
  • Misplaced item if any
  • Items placed in the irrespective counters

RFID Infrastructure:

RFIDJS works on the HF (13.56 MHz). It offers specific benefits. Most of the earlier RFID tracking systems used the HF frequency, mostly because it is the more mature and readily available system at the time that these systems were deployed. Size and design of HF Tags are suitable for Jewellery Application.

Tag Form Factors:

There are several ways that the RFID tag can be used in the system.

RFID Jewellery Labels:

RFID inlays can be imbedded into the RFID jewellery label. Benefits to this method include that it requires no additional labels or tags be applied to the jewellery and it also does not disturb the aesthetics o f the jewellery labels as the RFID inlay is ‘hidden’ within the label. Additionally, these labels can be printed and encoded in an RFID printer encoder that prints the human readable and barcode data (if required) and also encodes the RFID data to the tag. These are available in a number of form factors and sizes. We have smallest tag size is 20X10 mm

RFID Jewellery Tags:

RFID inlays can also be imbedded into tags. Some higher end jewellers attach high-quality pre-printed tags to the jewellery item using strings. For these jewellers, there is an option. The RFID inlay can be imbedded in the tag at the time of manufacture. And all the detailed information can be stored.

RFID Basin System

  • About 30 different items in basins can be placed on the RFID reader and their information can be read simultaneously.
  • Save 90% of time for stock taking and enhance the accuracy of inventory.
  • Every Check In or Check Out from the inventory is recorded.
  • Inventory transaction of different jewellery is traceable.
  • Stock-taking and searching of Jewellery can be effortlessly done by placing Jewellery tray onto the RFID reading
  • Pad or swiping a portable inventory handheld reader across the tray.

Shelf Inventory Handheld Reader

Handheld readers involve the associate passing a battery-powered reader over the sales merchandise at discrete times throughout the day. Inventory can be taken multiple times throughout the day & one handheld reader can be used to support an entire store.

Benefits to the Jewellery Company/Shop

  • Accurate Stock Checking lowers inventory costs at high level
  • Saves time by avoiding redundant stock checking
  • Provides maximum security for expensive jewels
  • Multiple items can be tracked & scanned at the same time
  • Enabling fast billing at POS counter
  • Reduces crowd at billing terminal
  • Save 90% of time for stock taking and enhance the accuracy of your inventory
  • Every Check In or Check Out from the inventory is recorded
  • Inventory transaction of different jewelleries can be traceable
  • The item record in the inventory can be more accurate

Above mentioned solution is the basic Jewellery management and inventory solution, whereas High end solution is also present which is Smart Shelf

In jewellery retail stores, RFID readers are placed inside display showcases. Once turned on, the readers are worked to monitor jewellery items real time. Actual information such as the location of every jewellery piece, the trending on the number of times it has been requested over the counter and similar tracking duties are conscientiously performed by the system.

Jewellery software can be setup to continuously receive real-time report feeds from RFID readers and performs corresponding actions as required in the jewellery management process. For example, if a particular jewellery item is removed from the smart shelf unauthorized, the system can be programmed to alert the shop manager that a possible theft is taking place.
